Tips given on dressing to impress in workplace

Click here to return Interviewing for new position? Looking for advancement? A significant part of hiring decision -- as well as advancement decisions -- are based on nonverbal elements, such as handshake, eye contact, body language, posture, listening skills, clothing, grooming and accessories.

According to faculty in WSU's Apparel, Merchandising and Textiles department, "Don’t overlook the power of a good first impression. People make amazing assumptions about your professional credibility and potential performance based upon your appearance during a first meeting. It's very difficult to overcome a poor first impression, regardless of your knowledge or expertise."

AMT currently offers a website titled "Dress to Impress," http://amdt.wsu.edu/research/dti/index.htm, providing abroad number of tips to both men and women. In addition, an interview AMT professor Carol Salusso, can be seen at
